A departure from Fender's traditional tone wood choices, the 2017 Limited Edition Malaysian Blackwood Telecaster enhances the traditional Tele style with the elegant look of a Malaysian blackwood top. Strong and dense, Malaysian blackwood has plenty of sustain, perfect for soaring lead lines and raucous rhythm work.

For authentic, vintage-inspired tone, the 2017 Limited Edition Malaysian Blackwood Telecaster is loaded with two JP-90 single-coil pickups. Topped by 22 narrow-tall frets for easy bending, the 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard is ideal for most playing styles, offering enough arc for comfortable chording while remaining flat enough for wide bends. The custom string-through-body short-plate Tele bridge features compensated brass saddles for accurate intonation along the entire length of the neck.

Not only are we dedicated to conscientious sourcing of tone wood to craft our instruments, we’re constantly searching for alternate woods and materials, including rescuing wood that otherwise may have languished on the forest floor.

Over the course of its decade-long journey from the forest floor to the player’s hands, this body wood has weathered natural disasters, acquiring more than a little mojo along the way.

Fender’s original prototype instruments were fashioned from pine and now, with the 2017 Limited Edition American Vintage ’59 Pine Stratocaster we’ve come full circle. This body wood began its functional life over 100 years ago, as part of the Buckstaff Furniture Company’s facility in Oshkosh, WI before it was reclaimed, cooked and fashioned into an instrument. The grain, knotholes and man-made imperfections make each one unique.
